So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”
(1 Peter 5:6-7NLT)
We often worry about our position and status, hoping to get proper recognition for what we do. But Peter advises us to remember that God’s recognition counts more than human praise. God is able and willing to bless us according to his timing. Humbly obey God regardless of present circumstances, and in his good time—either in this life or in the next—he will honor you.
Carrying your worries, stresses, and daily struggles by yourself shows that you have not trusted God fully with your life. It takes humility, however, to recognize that God cares, to admit your need, and to let others in God’s family help you. Sometimes we think that struggles caused by our own sin and foolishness are not God’s concern. But when we turn to God in repentance, he will bear the weight even of those struggles. Letting God have your anxieties calls for action, not passivity. Don’t submit to circumstances but to the Lord, who controls circumstances.(Tyndale Study Bible)
Humble yourself – what powerful words. Easier said than done, though. An important feature here is the submitting to the power of God. I fail continuously in this regard. Be humble and get on with your life in the most Godly manner possible and God will recognize you. All this will happen when you least expect it…
The scripture speaks about giving all your cares and worries to God. You see, this, once again, this calls for action. Just like when you are chasing a reward at work, it calls for action because nothing “just happens”.
The important part of this that you should rely on God to take care of all your concerns. You see, not only is it a call to action, but a commitment as well. The commitment is vital in all of this. Just like it takes commitment to achieve at work, the same applies when applying this scripture. And when you do commit, the rewards are huge.
