Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. (Ephesians 4:1- 3 NLT)
“There is one body,” says Paul. Unity does not just happen; we have to work at it. Often differences among people can lead to division, but this should not be true in the church. Instead of concentrating on what divides us, we should remember what unites us: one body, one Spirit, one future, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God! Have you learned to appreciate people who are different from you? Can you see how their differing gifts and viewpoints can help the church as it does God’s work? Learn to enjoy the way we members of Christ’s body complement one another.
No one is ever going to be perfect here on earth, so we must accept and love other Christians in spite of their faults. When we see faults in fellow believers, we should be patient and gentle. Is there someone whose actions or personality really annoys you? Rather than dwelling on that person’s weaknesses or looking for faults, pray for him or her. Then do even more—spend time together and see if you can learn to like him or her.
Come and tell if you haven’t felt this way before?
You know that on guy or girl who just gets up your nose. When they enter the room, when they speak or just when they are around. Sometimes even as grown ups certain children we meet have the same effect on us. Yes you know what I am talking about.
As a Christian I fail horribly in some of these areas. I do try to rectify it. I have told this story before, I lead a group in Bible study, ex addicts and street people. When I first got there I disliked many of them and there ways. I remember the one guy in particular, always cocky, disrespectful and the blue-eyed boy of the house. What I learnt and experienced, only when I opened my heart and loved him did my words from God mean anything. Only then did I manage to over come the barriers.
“Making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” What a statement. Can you imagine what the world would be like, when we apply this.
We all, everybody on earth, form the Body of Christ, the Church. People that don’t believe cause dysfunction in this world. It’s our job as believers to help, firstly fellow believers and then to reach out for others.
I just have to say this ” an important place to start is at work. People there see the best and worst of you. There’s the challenge.” That includes me.
Unity, remember I said there is strength in numbers and more so in working together. We are all called, to do so.
” Lord I pray for unity. Unified we can change the world. There is so much to do. In Jesus name. Amen.
