The one thing I ask of the LORD — the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. (Psalms 27:4 NLT)
By the “house of the Lord” and “his Temple,” David could be referring to the Tabernacle in Gibeon, to the sanctuary he had built to house the Ark of the Covenant, or to the Temple that his son Solomon was to build. David probably had the Temple in mind because he made many of the plans for it (1 Chronicles 22). David may also have used the word Temple to refer to the presence of the Lord. David’s greatest desire was to live in God’s presence each day of his life. Sadly, this is not the greatest desire of many who claim to be believers. What do you most desire? Do you look forward to being in the presence of the Lord?
These verses focus on confidence found in the presence of God in the sanctuary. The house of the Lord. The place where God’s presence is manifest is a place of sanctuary from the enemy.
Searching for and enjoying the Lord’s presence provides the psalmist’s foundation for confidence and security. He lives in the assurance of God’s protection and looks forward to offering sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise (see 18:6).
This all forms part of the Old Covenant. The Temple was the Holy place people took offerings too. Things have changed. Because of our sinful nature. God sent his Son. Jesus died for our sins and was resurrected from the dead. At that point the shroud of the Temple was destroyed and the power of the Holy Spirit was released over the world.
That all forms part of the New Covenant. All you have to do to be part off this, is believed that Jesus lived and died for your sins. Accept Him as your lord and savior.
With the release of the Holy Spirit that Holy place is available to all of us that believe. We don’t need to go to the temple to be in the presence of God. We can access his presence anywhere and anytime.
The Church as it is today is every believer, we all are part off the Body of Christ the Church. Yes our buildings are sanctuaries, but without people there is no Church. People make up the Body of Christ, the Church.
Remember what the Bible says about being a shining light an example and spokes person for Jesus. We are called to share the Good news. There is power in numbers we all have responsibility to share.
How privileged are we, we can create our own sanctuary, and we have direct access to God through his Son Jesus. All this is made possible through the power of the Holy Spirit. You can call on his guidance anytime day and place.
Think off this, I am 35000 feet up in the air, traveling at 900 km/h and God is with me, through the Holy Spirit. Guiding me as I write these words. How amazing.
” God I give thanks for Your Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Thank you for making it so easy to be in your presence. I pray that the Holy Spirit will work in people’s life’s so that they can see the light. In Jesus name I pray. Amen”
