Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. (Romans 12:3 NLT)

Healthy self-esteem is important because some of us think too little of ourselves; on the other hand, some of us overestimate ourselves. The key to an honest and accurate self-evaluation is knowing the basis of our self-worth—our identity in Christ. Apart from him, we aren’t capable of very much by eternal standards; in him, we are valuable and capable of worthy service. Evaluating yourself by the worldly standards of success and achievement can cause you to think too much about your worth in the eyes of others and thus miss your true value in God’s eyes.

Before I met God, I used to think I was better than the next person. I certainly thought I was better than the laborer that worked for me. How wrong I was. Yes, there a couple of you who are saying “yes, I am better than that beggar along the road.”

What makes you a better than the next person? Is it money or intelligence?
I was having a chat to a friend of mine. I said that I love everybody since being saved. That is one of the changes that takes place when you are saved. That includes the beggar. I can put my arm around anybody and reach out to them. There are so many people in this world that need help. Not only money, but even just a word of encouragement. Who knows what the next persons needs?

The question I ask these days is: if that street person had the same opportunity, where would he be? I believe opportunity comes very seldom. And it’s what you do with that opportunity that is important. I also believe you create opportunities with your actions. For example, do your work excellently and doors will open for you in promotion.

All things in this world are God-given. Babies are a miracle, a gift from God. Now it’s all these God-given gifts that let us get ahead of ourselves. We think we did these wonderful things. It’s not, it is by the grace of God.

So the greatest person in world, is the one that has the most faith. Jesus answered his disciples the greatest among them is the one who serves most.
“Lord I pray you humble me. That I can be your light. In Jesus name. Amen.”
