Restore me

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and mak me willing to obey you. (‭Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭12‬ NLT)‬‬‬‬‬‬

Do you ever feel stagnant in your faith, as though you are just going through the motions? Has sin ever driven a wedge between you and God, making him seem distant? David felt this way. He had sinned with Bathsheba and had just been confronted by Nathan the prophet. In his prayer he cried, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation.” God wants us to be close to him and to experience his full and complete life. But sin that remains unconfessed makes such intimacy impossible. Confess your sin to God. You may still have to face some earthly consequences, as David did, but God will give back the joy of your relationship with him.

Reading this makes think of the old days as an athlete. I can name a couple of examples how you lose your joy. These are examples that is similar to David and our experience with losing salvation. It’s not meant literally. Restore me to the joy? Sin and bad habits keep you from the joy. In each thing or situation it is different. Let me try to explain.

If you are an athlete you should be sticking to your training regime and the euphoria is amazing. The sense of accomplishment is even better. Then, for whatever, reason you miss sessions and the pressure builds, no euphoria, but rather frustration creeps in. If I don’t keep this regime I am not going to achieve my goal – to win the race. Sin has the same effect as missing a session. It’s keeps you from being with God.

The same thing happens at work. If you are doing everything and performing, glory will be yours. Don’t do your bit, and the stress of not achieving will build. It can lead to self-destruction. We all have seen it many times. And then we want to blame all things except ourselves.

So this principle of doing the right thing and staying in the zone applies to all aspects of life. You don’t stay in the zone, the problems start. There no better example than in our relationships. You don’t do the right thing all the time, you lose the joy very quickly. Then trouble starts. In relationships it’s a two-way street. Each party has a responsibility and function. The key is it does not just happen it takes effort commitment and discipline. The same as acquiring knowledge in the Bible.

God gave us salvation, as he gave us the union of marriage. To stay in his joy we have to stay in conversation and union with Him. Sin will keep us from doing that. Just like the challenges of sin and the world will keep from each other in relationships.

Here are a few words that will keep us from God and each other. Sin, Guilt, Depression, Condemnation, Jealousy, Lust, Greed, Adultery, Lies, Deceit, Laziness. I am sure there many more.

Know think of these words,Holy Humble and Pure. These will keep us in Joy and with God.

“Lord I pray for the last words. May these fill my soul. May joy fill my soul. And will that pour out to all around me. In Jesus name. Amen. “
