“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
James 5:16 NLT
Christ has made it possible for us to go directly to God for forgiveness. But confessing our sins to each other still has an important place in the life of the church. (1) If we have sinned against an individual, we must ask him or her to forgive us. (2) If our sin has affected the church, we must confess it publicly. (3) If we need loving support as we struggle with a sin, we should confess that sin to those who are able to provide that support. (4) If, after confessing a private sin to God, we still don’t feel his forgiveness, we may wish to confess that sin to a fellow believer for assurance of God’s pardon. In Christ’s Kingdom, every believer is a priest to other believers (1 Peter 2:9).
“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:9 NLT
I was at a prayer meeting on Monday and wow what an event. What impacted me was this, Pastor Hennie was explaining that when we pray, we should ignore the influence from our brain. Because it can affect connecting with the Holy Spirit. In my short walk with God I have learnt how to connect with the Spirit and talk to God. After spending time with Pastor Hennie that went to another level. I learnt this, open your eyes and see what you want to pray about. Make a connection with that person or subject. Let it come from your belly. Athletes will tell you power is in the core. Practice that, you will feel that prayer coming from there. I always prayed from my brain. The 3rd thing that I learnt, in the beginning when you are new at prayer, stand and move around, make that prayer come from deep down, your belly, feel it. You won’t be able to rely on that strength from your core siting down.
Another thing I learnt is yes, God says: “where there is more than one gathered in my name, I will be present.” Remember this in world and in the Spirit world there is power in numbers. So yes, as much as you can pray together. I say that again there is power in numbers.
One thing that happens as a young believer is doubt in yourself, I can’t do that. I can’t lead that prayer. I you think that, you will believe that. At some stage you will be forced by circumstance to lead prayer. Practice makes perfect. So why not do it sooner than later.
Read that second piece of scripture in conjunction with the words in bold. You see just there is you mandate.
“Lord I pray that You give me the boldness to pray with others. I pray that you will work in all believers to pray for others. In Jesus name. Amen”
