“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.”
Romans 8:6-8 NLT
Paul divides people into two categories: those who are dominated by their sinful nature, and those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit. All of us would be in the first category if Jesus didn’t offer us a way out. Once we have said yes to Jesus, we will want to continue following him, because his way brings life and peace. Daily we must consciously choose to center our life on God. Use the Bible to discover God’s guidelines, and then follow them. In every perplexing situation, ask yourself, “What would Jesus want me to do?” When the Holy Spirit points out what is right, do it eagerly. For more on our sinful nature versus our new life in Christ, see 6:6-8; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:3-15. (Tyndal Study Bible)
Guilt! Have you felt that before, yes I am sure? Have you heard this before, “your guilt will consume you.” Guilt can make you not think straight. It will influence your choices.
When I became saved, people used to say that sin will keep me from God. I used to look at them and think what are you talking about? As I have matured as a Christian, I can distinctly tell when my misgivings and transgression keeps me from God. Let me share two examples.
I lose my temper or become impatient, where has God gone in this instance. He is nowhere. You commit sin in the private of you bedroom, or you defraud someone out of money, your guilt consumes you. Do you feel like speaking to God at that moment, no I don’t think so?
Here is one we can all relate to at least the married among us. Your quarrels and temper will keep you from your wife/husband. Do you think there will be intimacy if you are quarreling? I don’t believe. In the same way, sin will keep you from being intimate with God. Read the scripture again. Let the Holy Spirit control your mind. Because so a man thinks so is he.
When you are saved God starts the Good works in you. Open your heart and mind to let that happen. Stay in the Word of God to get revelation, read your Bible daily.
“Lord let the Holy Spirit be with me daily. In Jesus name. Amen.”
