Fear of the Lord

“Better to have little, with fear for the LORD, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil.” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭16‬ NLT)
“If we have enough . . . let us be content.” But when is enough enough? How can we truly be content? There is a difference between what we need and what we want. We may have all we need to live (that is, we have enough), but we let ourselves become anxious and discontented over what we merely want. We can choose to be content without having all that we want. The only alternative is to be “trapped by many foolish and harmful desires” that ultimately lead only to “ruin and destruction.”(Tyndal Study Bible)
I used to own a huge business. I hardly ever slept because of the turmoil I went through. Because of the rapid growth of the company, it was severely cash-strapped, there was no cash flow. So come month-end and certain other times in the business cycle, you robbed Peter to pay Paul. Eventually, we were doing it so much that we got hardened and later it did not worry us. Deep down I knew what we were doing is wrong and that caused me not to sleep. If you don’t tell anyone, you are exposed, they won’t know. The thing I remember most we started with small amounts then landed up to be in the millions. How wrong!

After selling the business and settling for less finance in life, I can sleep at night. First I sold and then became a Christian. What a revelation it’s been. Adopt a fear of the Lord, lose the love of money and gain inner peace.

The chase for fame and money means nothing. You can’t take any of the worldly riches with you.

If you chase money to glorify God, it’s different. It’s all about what your motive is.

“Lord I pray for peace and that I will make lots of money to Glorify your Kingdom. In Jesus name.  Amen.”
