“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Romans 12:2 NIV
Paul warned Christians, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world,” which is selfish and corrupting. Many Christians wisely decide that a large portion of the world’s behavior is off-limits for them. Our refusal to conform to this world, however, must go even deeper than just behavior and customs—it must be firmly planted in the values rooted in our mind: “Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” It is possible to avoid most worldly customs and still be proud, covetous, selfish, stubborn, and arrogant. Only when the Holy Spirit renews, reeducates, and redirects our mind are we truly transformed. (Tyndal Study Bible)
” It is possible to avoid most worldly customs and still be proud, covetous, selfish, stubborn, and arrogant. Only when the Holy Spirit renews, reeducates, and redirects our mind are we truly transformed.”
When we are born again, we should remember that it’s precisely that, born again. Babies certainly don’t conform to the pattern of this world. Why then do we after we are born again.
Remember these words, “you are what you eat.” Babies are born into this sinful world. Imagine if we never expose infants to the evils of the world. How will they turn out? Imagine if we never feed them sugar, will they ever crave sugar. Do you get where I am going with this?
When saved, we are still exposed to evils and temptations of the world. Because we have to live and operate in this world. What do you think should we do, to guard against all this evil. Paul gives some good advice,
renewing off the mind. My question to you how do we do that? What works is to study the Word of God, the Bible, as much as possible. Let the Holy Spirit do its job in your heart. Ask God daily for guidance to lead you from temptation. Give you wisdom to resist the temptation of the world.
“Lord I thank you for the Holy Spirit guidance. May I conform to Your pattern Lord. Amen.”
