“Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life.”
Proverbs 22:4 NIV
This general observation—that fear of the Lord leads to riches, honor, and long life—would have been especially applicable to an obedient Israelite living in Solomon’s God-fearing kingdom. Nevertheless, some have been martyrs at a young age, and some have forfeited all their wealth for the sake of God’s Kingdom. The book of Proverbs describes life the way it should be. It does not dwell on the exceptions. (For more on this concept, see the note on 3:16-17.) (Tyndal Study Bible)
I while ago I had to present a project on God. In preparation, I did lots of research. I discovered a couple of things.
In science today, there is a debate as to how creation started. I believe the Bible description of creation. Hawking’s who is most probably the most respected scientist in this field said this. He, “Hawking had previously appeared to accept the role of God in the creation of the universe. Writing in his bestseller A Brief History Of Time in 1988, he said: “If we discover a complete theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason – for then we should know the mind of God.” All the bright guys acknowledge God’s hand in creation.
My point is, God created us. All our talents and character traits are by His design. I can hear you say all the bad things, did he create that as well? Nope, certainly not. You see He gave us the power of choice. Dailly we are faced with many options. The trick is to take the right ones, and just like God’s word says it will lead to riches.
People’s wrong choices started as far back as Adam and Eve. If you read scripture, it is clear that was not God’s intention for humanity. He even sent His son Jesus to redeem us. One can see it as a second chance. No matter what we have done, we can be saved. At the same time, he released the Holy Spirit to guide us daily. That little voice that says that’s not right.
He, God has given us all the tools to help us, the Bible, his Son Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Prayer. We can talk to Him directly. All we need to do is make the right choices. You might think that the commentary above does not apply to you and me. I can assure you it applies to everyone. Follow the advice in Proverbs; you will receive the great reward.
“Lord I thank you for Your guidance and instruction. Amen.”
