Be strong

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.””
‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭NIV‬‬
How strange to equate success with obedience. For many, success is controlling others; for Joshua it meant being controlled by God. God told Joshua that to succeed he must obey the rules for living found in God’s law. Often we can’t see what the results or future benefits of following God will be. When we are not certain what to do, obedience to what God has revealed in the Scriptures is the only sure step we can take. Resolve to set aside time each day to read and think about God’s Word. Remind yourself of God’s words day and night. Act today on what you know God has said, and God will assure your success in carrying out his purposes. (Tyndale Study Bible)
In our daily challenges, many times it’s the lack of obedience, courage and determination that sets us up for failure. The obedience to do the hard and necessary stuff. As the Athletes descend on Rio, do you think they were obedient in all their preparation for this event? I can assure you a lot of hard work was put in to achieve the result. The training is not always pleasant. If you do the hard work, the result will follow. It’s the same in our daily lives.
After spending 40 years in the wilderness on their way to the promised land, the Israelites arrive. Moses, who led them this, far never gets to see the area. He sends 12 scouts to go and have a look. Only two come back with a positive report, Joshua and Caleb, the rest only see the negatives.
Every day we are faced with challenges. What’s hard is to identify the positive, because that is what we can work with. Pay attention to what scripture is saying, be strong and courageous. More important the Lord will be with you. Not always easy to trust and rely on God wholeheartedly. We can’t touch and feel Him; we need to rely on our Faith. Many fail at this, yet, many succeeded. So I say, listen to the advice here.
The Old Testament is written in Latin and the name Joshua in Latin means Lord and saviour. The New Testament in Greek. The meaning of the name Jesus in Greek is? Yes, you guessed it, Saviour. Is this a coincidence, I don’t think so? Just as its no coincidence that we have God and the Bible to guide us daily. My challenge is really on Them.
Rely on the advice of Joshua and Jesus. Joshua and Jesus were set here, by God, to lead and advise. Just pay attention.
“Lord open my heart so that I can head this advice. Amen.”
