“Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16 NLT)
Paul wanted the Corinthians to understand that they were a unified assembly (“all of you together are the temple of God” and “the Spirit of God lives in you”). They were not to see themselves as a collection of competing interests or independent individuals. Paul was emphasizing the intent of Jesus’ prayer in John 17:21-23 that believers be unified in God. What actions could you take this week to strengthen your ties to fellow Christians in the church of Jesus Christ?
Christians must be very careful, both in what they teach and in how they relate to one another, because the body of believers is the temple of God, the home of the Spirit of God who lives in (or among) them (cp. Eph 2:21-22), and God’s temple is holy (see 1:2). There are terrible consequences for anyone who destroys God’s temple by such things as jealousy, argumentativeness, and divisiveness (Tyndale Study Bible)
What an amazing verse. What I learnt in the last while is that the Church is not merely a building that we meet in every Sunday. Yes, of course, it’s part of God’s Church, but it is also all of us, the individuals who are a part of God’s Church. We each form an integral part of His Church. You see, not one of us is the same, but together we build the temple that is the Church, the house of God.
When we accept Jesus as our saviour, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us.
The Spirit, Gods Spirit, sanctifies us. A guide to makes us holy. What we must realise that each of us, is God’s temple. We must live and behave accordingly. Our ways should Glorify God.
The next thing is that we should unify all be on the same page as the next Christian. We should stand together, and our ways should entice non-believers. It’s our behaviour and actions that make us stand out and attract people. Show them what they are missing.
I remember these words Holy, Humble and Pure. Dress with these, will there ever be strife and dissension in the Body of Christ? I must say that all of the above advice is from God. These traits won’t just happen it takes a directed decision and conscious effort. I encourage you.
“I pray, God, that you unify your people as the Church and Body of Christ Jesus. God, I pray that as a body we will impact all people’s lives. To Your Glory. In Jesus name. Amen.”
