“As the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.”
2 Corinthians 10:17-18 NLT
When we do something well, we want to tell others and be recognized. But recognition is dangerous—it can lead to inflated pride. How much better it is to seek the praise of God rather than the praise of people. Then, when we receive praise, we will be free to give God the credit. What should you change about the way you live in order to receive God’s commendation?(Tyndale Study Bible)
I immediately think of the words “holy”, “humble”, and “pure”. The key word to me personally is “humble”.
My daughter took part in a Triathlon a year ago. The evening before standing around the camp fire, although trying to be humble, I spoke about what I achieved in the past. Yes, there is a little boasting in all of that.
Us humans all look for recognition, if not from our peers it’s from people in our space. Have you heard this before: “Meet Joe. He has achieved this and that”? It’s in our nature to seek recognition.
So why not boast about the most important person in world – God? Recognise Him before your peers. That recognition and boasting will stand you in good stead. The most important recognition is that of God. We need nothing from our peers. It’s all about God.
There is saying: “out of sight, out of mind.” We can’t see God that’s why it’s important to keep Him in our minds at all times. The best way is to surround ourselves with Godly things and practices. Like boasting about God.
“ Lord I pray for Your presence in my life at all times. May people around me see You in me. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen”
