Strong Lions

Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.” (‭Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭10‬ NLT)
At first we may question David’s statement because we seem to lack many good things. This is not a blanket promise that all Christians will have everything they want. Instead, this is David’s praise for God’s goodness—all those who call upon God in their need will be answered, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Remember, God knows what we need, and our deepest needs are spiritual. Even though many Christians face unbearable poverty and hardship, they still have enough spiritual nourishment to live for God. David was saying that if you have God, you have all you really need. God is enough.

If you feel you don’t have everything you need, ask: (1) Is this really a need? (2) Is this really good for me? (3) Is this the best time for me to have what I desire? Even if you answer yes to all three questions, God may allow you to go without to help you grow more dependent on him. He may want you to learn that you need him more than having your immediate desires met. (Tyndal Study Bible)
This scripture and commentary make me think of a talk I heard a couple of years ago. It was about teamwork. In the wild, a lion hunting on its own has a success rate between 15 – 19%. When they hunt as a pride or team, it increases to 30%.
Three things are interesting to me: Firstly, not a great success rate alone. Secondly, the concept of a team and, thirdly, they only kill what they need. You see, the interesting thing here is that if they fail and give up, they starve and eventually die. So what happens? They never give up! God provides because it’s all His design. God did not just make it a walk in the park for lions – it’s tough for them too. Just like life for us…
So firstly never give up, because giving up is the only real failure.
Secondly, teamwork is of vital importance, first helping others to gain success and then yourself.
Lastly, the writer poses the question about need. Here I am speaking to myself, do you really need that or is it just there to satisfy your greed or to impress others?
Just like God provides for the birds and the bees, He will provide for us. Trust in Him and have faith.
“Dear Lord, I pray that you will provide for our needs. And if we have more to help others in there need in all things, not just material, but spiritual as well. I pray for Your touch. I give thanks to all provision. In Jesus Mighty name. Amen”
