Count your blessings
Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. (Colossians 3:16 NLT)
Although the early Christians had access to the Old Testament and freely used it, they did not yet have the New Testament or any other Christian books to study. Their stories and teachings about Christ were memorised and passed on from person to person. Sometimes the lessons were set to music, and so music became an important part of Christian worship and education.
Thankful people can worship wholeheartedly. Gratitude opens our hearts to God’s peace and enables us to put on love. Discontented people constantly calculate what’s wrong with their lot in life.
To increase your thankfulness, take an inventory of all you have (including your relationships, memories, abilities, and family, as well as material possessions). Use the inventory for prayers of gratitude. On Sunday, before worship, quit rushing around; instead, take time to reflect on reasons for thanks. Declare Sunday as your “thanks, faith, and hope” day. Celebrate God’s goodness to you, and ask in prayer for all your needs for the week ahead. (Tyndal Study Bible)
This makes me think there is always someone worse off than you. Consider how blessed you are.
Whenever I meet an old school friend, I am always amazed at how well they are doing. Yes, there are the one or two that just did not make it. If you investigate, it’s normally because of wrong choices. It even goes so far as bad decisions with drugs and alcohol.
I immediately think of the young adults that smoke dope on a daily basis. They believe that they have it under control. Do they? These habits can so quickly lead to one’s death physically and phycology. You easily land up just as an old dope head. How many old barflies do you know? Their only activity is hanging out in pubs and drinking. Is that the life? I don’t think so. Which life do you choose?
Read the scripture again. If you fill your life with Godly riches. Would you need to hang out bars? No, you would not because you will be at peace where you are? We should always ask “what is it we seek” As I am writing this I am looking over the ocean with the sun coming up. How Blessed.
Every cloud has a silver lining. Stop and count your Blessings
“Lord I thank you for Your Grace. I thank you for all my Blessings. Help me touch others. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen”
