The wise listen
“Fools think their own way is right, but the wise listen to others.”
Proverbs 12:15 NLT
1. What it is that keeps a fool from being wise: His way is right in his own eyes; he thinks he is in the right in every thing he does, and therefore asks no advice, because he does not apprehend he needs it; he is confident he knows the way, and cannot miss it, and therefore never enquires the way. The rule he goes by is to do that which is right in his own eyes, to walk in the way of his heart. He is a fool that is governed by his eye, and not by his conscience.
2. What it is that keeps a wise man from being a fool; he is willing to be advised, desires to have counsel given him, and hearkens to counsel, being diffident of his own judgment and having a value for the direction of those that are wise and good. He is wise (it is a sign he is so, and he is likely to continue so) whose ear is always open to good advice.(Mathew Henry)
Over time I have certainly made myself guilty of thinking that I am right and don’t need advice or teaching from others.
Let’s use a classic modern example: the power of social media. What is your position as far as that is concerned? Do you use it to promote your business and your faith? Yes, your faith. Do you put it out there.? Do you use it to reach non-believers? That is not my job I can hear you say. It’s the church’s responsibility. I don’t think so.
How many contacts on your mobile? Do all those people know what you stand for? We are mandated by Jesus to be Fisher of men. Do you use all the tools at your disposal to achieve that?
My question: have you done everything in your business or work environment to put yourself first? Pertaining to social media etc? Are you the smartest individual out there promoting yourself. If it is not promoting yourself is it empowering yourself with knowledge to do your job better.
I know I have a lot to do. Don’t think you are too old to learn. There so much knowledge out there. It makes me think of all the wisdom and skill in the Bible. Open your mind and heart to its teaching. It will have staggering results.
“ I pray that we will open our hearts and minds to Your teaching Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.”
