“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
Galatians 1:10 NLT
Do you spend your life trying to please everybody? Paul had to speak harshly to the Christians in Galatia because they were in serious danger. He did not apologize for his straightforward words, knowing that he could not serve Christ faithfully if he allowed the Galatian Christians to remain on the wrong track. Whose approval are you seeking—others’ or God’s? Pray for the courage to seek God’s approval above anyone else’s.
The tone and content of this letter make it clear that trying to win the approval of people was not Paul’s goal. Paul was probably criticized by the Judaizers for trying to please people by presenting only the part of the Good News pertaining to faith and grace, and not what they perceived to be the whole message including the law. • Being Christ’s servant requires fidelity to Christ, regardless of how people respond (cp. Acts 5:29; Eph 6:5-6; 1 Thes 2:3-6) (Tyndal study Bible)
A couple of Sunday’s ago our Pastor in his Sermon about Purity, said this. We sometimes do things behind closed doors, and we think nobody can see. So it’s Ok. What we don’t realise God sees everything. We can’t hide anything from him. He knows everything, he knows about every hair on our bodies. He knows our every thought.
I wonder how many people suffer from some addiction and they don’t even know they have. And these days how easy it is to access things, generally behind closed doors. The thing is, it’s between you and God. And yes, there is help out there for everything. If you just follow the principles of the Bible most of these things won’t happen.
Just like the scripture says, it is not about people – it’s about God. It’s between you and Him. We need to seek favour from God and not people.
What comes to mind is, it’s easy to seek approval from man. We do all sorts of things to get our ego’s caressed, and the approval is instant. We can feel it immediately. It’s like getting that result in the workplace; it feels good. Then what we do we seek more of that feeling. In some cases, we even become addicted to it.
This all is the way of the world. The true way is God’s way. We should seek His approval. Yes, I know it’s not as instant as the way of the world. In the long run, it will be more rewarding. In the Bible, God says He will reward obedience. Apart from the inner peace, you receive when you please God, you will be rewarded with many blessings. I am not even talking about the eternal life you receive when accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
“Lord I pray for Your recognition. May I please you in everything I do. In Jesus name.Amen.”
