“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
(Matthew 28:19 NLT)
“If you abide in My word,” Jesus said, “then you are truly disciples of Mine” (John 8:31)
Jesus’ words affirm the reality of the Trinity. Some people accuse theologians of making up the concept of the Trinity and reading it into Scripture. As we see here, the concept comes directly from Jesus himself. He did not say baptize them in the names but in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The word Trinity does not occur in Scripture, but it well describes the three-in-one nature of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Tyndal Study Bible)
The disciples were to baptize people because baptism unites believers with Jesus Christ in their death to sin and their resurrection to new life. Baptism symbolizes submission to Christ, a willingness to live God’s way, and identification with God’s covenant people.
I spent the day on the beach a while ago. I am not the sort of person that can just lie in the Sun, so I spent most of my time walking up and down the beach. We were where, they launch Ski boats from the beach, so it was interesting watching that the boats come and go.
While I was doing this, my mind went to the Birth of Jesus, such a significant event. Celebrated all over the world. The question came to mind; how many on that beach understands the significance of this event. The birth of Jesus, He was born to save us. How many on the beach know about Jesus, or has a relationship with Him?
Once we are saved and abide by His word, we are His disciples. In Mathew, Jesus sent his disciples out into the world to save and Baptize nations. When saved we are disciples and are mandated to reach the lost. When last, have you led someone to the Lord? I encourage us, the body of believers to go out there and lead someone to the Lord. So let us expand that Body of believers. Just let me say I failed at this responsibility.
Just do what Jesus mandated us to do. Go out and baptize the nations.
“Lord I pray for confidence and wisdom to reach the unsaved. In Jesus name. Amen”
