“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2 NLT)
In chapter 2, Paul exposed the wrong reasons for self-denial. In chapter 3, he explains true Christian behavior—putting on the new nature by accepting Christ and regarding the earthly nature as dead. We change our moral and ethical behaviour by letting Christ live within us so that he can shape us into what we should be.
Setting our sights on the realities of heaven means striving to put heaven’s priorities into daily practice. Letting heaven fill our thoughts means concentrating on the eternal rather than the temporal. See John14:27-28 – for more on Christ’s rule in our hearts and minds. (Tyndale Study Bible)
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am.” (John 14:27-28 NLT)
The most amazing thing, isn’t it? If we accept Jesus as our saviour, God promises a new life. It’s a promise of Heaven just like the Lord’s Prayer says.
Mathew 6:10 “May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”(NLT)
All these promises are available to us if we believe. Just like John says, it’s a gift. We have to accept it, which again is an action on our part.
God’s will for us is the favour, just like it would be in heaven. We have heard so much of that. We need only to accept His favour, and the rest was already taken care of by Jesus on the Cross. I give God all I have and lay everything in His hands. I trust in Him completely and do my part as prescribed in the Bible. Working hard is part of that. Have you heard this? “God helps those who help themselves.” You have to do your part and have faith. Heaven will be yours now and the afterlife.
Whenever you lose faith, read the Bible and pray.
“Lord I pray for time to spend in your Word. Amen.”
