“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”
Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT
Just as children imitate their parents, we should follow God’s example by imitating Christ. His great love for us led him to sacrifice himself so that we might live. Our love for others should be of the same kind—a love that goes beyond affection to self-sacrificing service. (Tyndale Study Bible)
In this world, we live there are leaders and icons who we try to emulate. We all strive for better. If not for a better golf handicap, it’s just to look better.
Think of advertising: most, if not all; adverts depict a perfect world. Products are advertised to create this perfect person or look. Investment companies promote the ideal investment. Nutrition- the best results. Everything in this world today is cutting edge. If you are not on top of your game, you are not going to win. Just look at the Springboks who were beaten by the Japanse in the last Rugby world cup. They thought they could just pitch up and win. Why did the Japanese beat them? They planned better and played with more direction, clearly on top of their game. Then what happened was that we never adapted.
You see, we don’t have to imitate the world to have inner peace and that result we strive for. All we have to do is follow God’s example. All we have to do is imitate Christ Jesus. His example was so cutting edge that He gave His life. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to die for our sins. Cutting edge love, do we love that much?
Do this, and we will please the most important person – God. The heavenly rewards follow closely, just as the scripture says pleasing aroma to God.
“Lord I pray that you will give me the strength and wisdom to be like you. Forgive my shortcomings. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”
