“It is written: “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’ ””
Romans 14:11 NIV
Each person is accountable to Christ, not to others. While the church must be uncompromising in its stand against activities that are expressly forbidden by Scripture (adultery, transsexual activity, murder, theft), it should not create additional rules and regulations and give them equal standing with God’s law. Many times Christians base their moral judgments on opinion, personal dislikes, or cultural bias rather than on the Word of God. When they do this, they show that their own faith is weak—they do not think that God is powerful enough to guide his children. When we stand before God and give a personal account of our life, we won’t be worried about what our Christian neighbour has done (see 2 Corinthians 5:10).(Tyndal Study Bible)
Two things are important to me here. What we forget is that God loves us all. All those people that are referred to in the commentary. God’s love does not discard them. He Loves everybody the same and unconditionally. It’s known as Agape love which is a Greek word and means – “value and prize above all other things.”
Considering these words, we must realise that we are ultimately accountable to God. It is clearly stated in the Bible. As believers, we understand this, yet I am not sure the unbeliever knows that. Let me explain something. In all society, we are accountable to the rules and laws that govern that society. This differs from society to society. What is clear you have to adhere and are accountable. Just as you are accountable for the policies and rules at work, which also varies from workplace to workplace.
The important aspect of this accountability is that we are ultimately accountable to God. There is no getting away from that. We have a choice, however. We can fix things, by accepting Jesus as our saviour. We are then guaranteed a spot in heaven and will receive eternal life. Is that not something to consider.
I have said this before many times. The inner peace you receive at this point is unbelievable. The value of that is immense.
“Lord I pray people will accept you as their saviour. In Jesus name, Amen.”
