In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:16 NLT)
Can you hide a city that is sitting on top of a hill? Its light at night can be seen for miles. If we live for Christ, we will glow like lights, showing others what Christ is like. We hide our light by (1) being quiet when we should speak, (2) going along with the crowd, (3) denying the light, (4) letting sin dim our light, (5) not explaining our light to others, or (6) ignoring the needs of others. Be a beacon of truth—don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world.
Praise your heavenly Father: Religious hypocrites seek praise for themselves; Jesus’ disciples should seek praise for God (see 1 Pet 2:12) (Tyndale Study Bible)
Our Pastor spoke about excellence in his sermon on Sunday. It really struck a cord a with me.
He tells a story of a new church in Pretoria that has a tent, just like CRC Pretoria had for five years. You see, these big tents for a reason are always white, because it will be cooler inside. When driving past there, he noticed that the tent was brown and made a comment to our Senior Visionary At Boshoff that they get brown tents now. At said it’s not the case, the tent is just dirty. Aidan, on closer inspection, discovered that At was correct. CRC Pretoria spent many hours every week to keep their tent white. Where does the excellence lie? Who is shining?
Every day we go to work or out into the world we represent God and his Son Jesus. What a privilege. I ask myself continuously “am I worthy of that?” The way we behave daily should be a shining light. Do people comment and say I want to be like that. Can you see Jesus in him?
Many will say they can’t be like that because they don’t have anything. Success is what you do with your current situation. As you develop and grow, you should be improving. That’s why if you have not grown or learned how to grow daily, you are going backwards. And it so easy to do, especially if you are doing it to the Glory of God.
Even if you are a street sweeper, you can find excellence. Every day we go to work, we have an opportunity to shine and achieve excellence.
And just like the Pastor said on Sunday, the abundance will follow.
“Lord I pray that you will show me the abundant life. I know I must shine for you with good deeds. Lord humble me yet let me be the shining light. I thank you for Your Grace and favour. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen”
