“But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.” – 1 Timothy 5:8 NLT
Healthy homes remain the best possible training environment for children. When it comes to caring for relatives and honouring parents, children take most of their cues by watching how Mom and Dad honour the grandparents. If our children see the way we, as parents, care for our parents, they will understand the importance of such honour for us in the future. Healthy, practical honour becomes a priceless gift that one generation gives to another. Disrespect and lack of care provide harmful examples that will eventually turn on us. The warning in verse is ominous indeed. (Life Applications Study Bible)
Children are the key to the future of modern society. I heard a very good comment a couple of years ago. Your success as a parent is how your grandchildren turn out. In other words, then you have done a good job with their parents.
The foundation of the home is the parents. If you want a successful marriage, then your spouse and yourself must be two whole people. By whole, I mean everything in balance and from the point of love. Spiritual wholeness being key, that will lead to wholeness in all other departments. I must admit that I am still struggling to be that person every day I am getting better. Trust me I have bad days as well.
Don’t think that the mandate of the scripture is easy; I fail plenty. I am sure many of you feel the same as I do. With the daily challenges we have. Let me define failure; you only fail when you give up. So the important thing is never to give up.
I went to pray for a gentleman the other day that was dying of lung cancer. His body was failing him. I prayed for healing. But what I did pray for was that his failing body not robs him of his good spirit. That spirit that cared and raised a beautiful family. I met them and was very inspired. I can’t imagine how he must have felt those last couple of months. The feeling of despair as he cant care for his family because of a failing body. Peace be with you friend.
Let me just say today I realise that family is the most important thing in life. Like I said I have lots of work to do. What I can say is that faith has brought about change for the good. It always amazes me the lesson in the Bible.
“Lord, I pray Holy Spirit guide me every day to do the right thing. May I provide for my family as you want me too. In Jesus name, Amen.”
