God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20 – 21 NLT)
As a sinner, separated from God, you see his law from below, as a ladder to be climbed to get to God. Perhaps you have repeatedly tried to climb it, only to fall to the ground every time you have advanced one or two rungs. Or perhaps the sheer height of the ladder seems so overwhelming that you have never even started up. In either case, what relief you should feel to see Jesus offering with open arms to lift you above the ladder of the law, to take you directly to God! Once Jesus lifts you into God’s presence, you are free to obey—out of love, not necessity, and through God’s power, not your own. You know that if you stumble, you will not fall back to the ground. Instead, you will be caught and held in Christ’s loving arms. ( Tyndal Study Bible)
We are separated from God and his love by sin daily. Our guilt removes us from God. It’s the guilt in us that causes us to give up on God. It that same guilt that keeps people from going to Church. I just want to sort this out then I will go.
Firstly, some people don’t even get to having a relationship with God. They can’t believe after the things they have done that God loves them. God forgives all sin! He does not exclude some sin. It’s by God’s Grace and love that we walk in this world. It’s by his grace that Jesus died for our sin. It’s by His grace that we have the Holy Spirit to guide us in this life. All we have to do is believe.
Secondly, we should always be on fire for God. Have you heard the phrase, “the flame in him has died”? Again, sin and sinful behaviour prevent us speaking boldly about the Lord. Sometimes you may say something towards someone and then feel like you can’t claim and talk about God because of the wrong in you. This happens to me even though I try my hardest to be like Jesus. We, as humans, are weak. The way to be strong is to pray and stay in the Word.
It’s just like me writing these thoughts. I don’t do it on weekends. Why? Because Friday is social time. Is that correct? I am not sure. But if it’s worrying me then I should be disciplined enough to do it, even on weekends.
Read the scripture and the section that follows again. Don’t think that it’s a ladder. Trust God and Jesus to pick you up when you fail. In my experience, it even works in the workplace.
“Lord, make me trust you completely. I thank you for Grace and your Son Jesus. In Jesus name I pray this. Amen.”
