“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Romans 8:11 NLT
The Holy Spirit is God’s promise or guarantee of eternal life for those who believe in him. The Spirit is within us now by faith, and by faith, we are certain to live with Christ forever.
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you.” There are two big “ifs” here, not just one. There is the “if” of Jesus’ resurrection. Is this story factual? Did God raise Jesus from the dead? And there is the “if” of your conversion. Have you received the Spirit of God into your heart? Does the Spirit of God lead your life? Has he adopted you into God’s family and begun to give you the character of your heavenly Father?
The Two Most Important Questions
If either of these two “ifs” is untrue for you, then the promise is in vain, and your mortal body will not be raised unto life but unto fearful judgment. (www.desiringgod.org)
Yesterday we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. If you believe as the commentator says above, then the power of that Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is available to you. Salvation comes from declaring that Jesus died for your sin and believing that He was raised from the dead by Holy Spirit. Paul in Romans then says that is the Spirit that lives in us. This is the advantage Christians have that life-giving Spirit guides us daily. Through God and that Spirit, we are promised eternal life in heaven.
Read the commentary they speak about two ifs. As a Christian, we walk by faith and faith comes from hearing and hearing comes from the word of God, the Bible. I want to say don’t try and over complicate matters. As Christian, we know it is that Spirit, which is one with God, that touched us on the day of our salvation. Yes, it’s that Spirit that moved us to take that step of faith. Just like it is for us today, it is almost tangible. Christians experience that daily. And like I have said many times before that is available to all, not just me and my fellow Christians. Spend time reading the Bible because that is where your instruction will come from. I invite you to go to Church that’s where you will experience that Spirit. I pray that it moves you.
Please keep this in mind as the commentator says when we accept this into our lives, then we are adopted into God’s family. The Spirit lives in us, and the process of sanctification starts. Every day we become more like God because ultimately you were created in His image. All I want to say as well pay heed to the warnings. Remember above all with the Holy Spirit; you are promised a prosperous and blessed life.
Lord, I thank for the gift of the Spirit, Amen.
