“An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy.”
Who would prefer a friend’s wounds to an enemy’s kisses? Anyone who considers the source. A friend who has your best interests at heart may have to give you unpleasant advice at times, but you know it is for your own good. An enemy, by contrast, may whisper sweet words and happily send you on your way to ruin. We tend to hear what we want to hear, even if an enemy is the only one who will say it. A friend’s advice, no matter how painful, is much more valuable.
We all are human none of us want to hear bad or criticism about themselves. We want to listen to what we want to hear. Generally, the good things that caress your ego. We all have egos in some way or form. And don’t for one moment think you are perfect. I certainly am not. I fall horribly short. Yet I strive to be a better person all the time.
As a believer, we have a Friend in God. He speaks to us daily through the Holy Spirit and the Bible. And many a day I can say that is not what I wanted to hear on that day. How many times have you said this? It seems so appropriate at this stage. That is God’s way of speaking to us.
Have you had that little voice in the back of your head say, “now that is not right”? You guessed it; it’s the Holy Spirit speaking. Please just remember sincerity is critical in all of this.
So listen to your friends or family, the Holy Spirit and God through his word.
“Lord I thank you for friends that care. I thank you for Your word the Bible. Amen.”
