Stay alert

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (Ephesians 6:18 NLT)9
How can anyone pray at all times? One way is to make quick, brief prayers your habitual response to every situation you meet throughout the day. Another way is to order your life around God’s desires and teachings so that your very life becomes a prayer. You don’t have to isolate yourself from other people and from daily work in order to pray constantly. You can make prayer your life and your life a prayer while living in a world that needs God’s powerful influence. We also should pray for all believers in Christ; so pray for the Christians you know and for the church around the world.
I spent a bit of time leading a Bible study group. The group consisted of drug addicts and street people/children. I enjoyed it immensely.
The greatest challenge was the fact that these people slip back into their old habits very quickly and easily because it’s all they know. It takes a long time to form a good habit, but short to form a bad habit. As a young believer, we think prayer is something that we do within the confines of our private space. It’s quite the opposite…
Just as the scripture says, it can and must be done at all times. If you are faced with temptation or bad choices, pray right there. Call on the Holy Spirit to help you fight that attack. What often happens as humans, we think our sin is not as bad as the drug addicts. Sin is a sin; we can all rely on this way of prayer. I certainly do all the time.
My advice to them was to be very specific in your prayers. Especially the bullet prayers. What is also amazing is when you get into the habit of doing this, you are creating a line of communication with God and the Holy Spirit.
“Lord, help me to focus on talking to You. In Jesus name. Amen”
