If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:5 – 6 NLT)
By “wisdom,” James is talking not only about knowledge but about the ability to make wise decisions in difficult circumstances. Whenever we need wisdom, we can pray to God, and he will generously supply what we need. Christians don’t have to grope around in the dark, hoping to stumble upon answers. We can ask for God’s wisdom to guide our choices.
We must believe not only in the existence of God but also in his loving care. This includes relying on God and expecting that he will hear and answer when we pray. We must put away our critical attitude when we come to him. God does not grant every thoughtless or selfish request. We must have confidence that I God will align our desires with his purposes. For more on this concept, read the note on Matthew 21:22.
A person with divided loyalty is not completely convinced that God’s way is best. That person treats God’s Word like any human advice and retains the option to disobey. To stabilize your wavering or doubtful mind, commit yourself wholeheartedly to God. (Tyndal study Bible)
Wisdom! Every person in this world has a part to play. We all have people that look up to us because we are all senior to someone, so we all have the wisdom to share.
A while ago I accompanied my son while he enrolled at a university. What struck me was how young the people where that were attending to him. Then I realised they could do it because they were there the year before. So not only were they helping administratively, but also giving guidance in other areas and sharing wisdom.
We are not created the same as the next person; we might have more knowledge about certain things than the next person and less in other situations. We all can share wisdom. The ex-drug addict can share how you overcome that addiction.
There are days that I struggle finding a message to write. What do I do? I get quiet before God and pray for inspiration and wisdom. I am never short of words with God’s guidance. I have to give all the glory to God. Prayer is the key here, and I never doubt that God’s word will speak to me. God will guide that wisdom to do His work, and things will become easier.
This principle of asking God for wisdom applies to all things in life. We can take all our problems to God. Then we can’t waiver in any way; we should trust Him wholeheartedly for the wisdom and solution.
“Lord, I thank you for the opportunity to ask you for wisdom. I thank you for all the people you put there to help. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen”
