“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12NLT)
The “word of God” is not simply a collection of words from God, a vehicle for communicating ideas; it is living, life-changing, and dynamic as it works in us. With the incisiveness of a surgeon’s knife, God’s Word reveals who we are and what we are not. It penetrates the core of our moral and spiritual life. It discerns what is within us, both good and evil. The demands of God’s Word require decisions. We must not only listen to the Word; we must also let it shape our lives.
Echoing the call to hear God’s voice the author gives a beautiful epigram on the power and penetration of God’s word. • alive and powerful: God’s word is an active, effective force. The word that created and governs the cosmos can deal powerfully with people. • the sharpest two-edged sword: God’s word is able to penetrate the darkest recesses of people’s lives, exposing their innermost thoughts and desires
Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32ESV)
When I got saved it was by this verse John 8:32 – “and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free” My understanding was that know the truth about myself and that would set me free, which is what happened. The more I studied the Bible the real truth I discovered was knowing the Word and that will set you free. Just there I realized that the Bible is living and alive, the further you dig, more is revealed. I can’t wait to get stuck in the word daily.
Just as the writer says it cuts to the bone, every day more is revealed. It will expose all the evil. Just when think you have this thing called faith waxed there is a new revelation. That’s what I find so humbling. I must just warn we humans get lethargic about things. We must not forget to follow God’s word, enthusiastically and diligently. We must make God the centre of our life’s.
“Lord I pray that Your Word will cut all the rotten from me. Let it expose me and make me a better person Lord. I thank you in Jesus name. Amen.”
