Who is the greatest

#whoisthegreatest

“and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. [45] For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:44-45 NLT

Just as James and John wanted to be the highest positions in Jesus’ Kingdom, we strive for that in the world. Jesus, however, told them that true greatness comes in serving others. The disciples asked Jesus who was the greatest among them and He answered clearly, it is he who serves most.

Businesses, organisations, people and institutions measure greatness by personal achievement. In Christ’s Kingdom, however, service is the way to get ahead. The desire to achieve will hinder. Instead, look for ways that you can minister to the needs of others, putting them before your own needs.

In verse 45 the writer refers to a ransom, the price paid to release a slave. Jesus paid a ransom for us, by His death on the cross all of us are freed from our slavery to sin. If you believe that Christ died for our sins. It’s not Jesus that saved us but His death on the cross that redeems us. We as humans don’t comprehend the significance all the time. That is why we as Christian are to spread the Good News. Jesus died for all our sins, no matter how small or big. It is our most important mandate, to win the lost.

Throughout the teachings in the Bible, Jesus uses his own example, to teach his disciples humility and lowliness of mind, and to check their ambitious views and desires. The most important one, to glorify God.

It reminds of those words again Holy, humble and pure. Humble been the one that in this context is the most important. So in a couple of words serve, be humble, and it will take you a long way in God’s kingdom.

Let me relate a true story; we have a Muslim manageress in our office. She encountered one of my Christian customers. One of his stand out character traits is humility. She commented that she finds it very attractive and motivating. If you dress with that trait, people will respect you. The funny thing is you won’t even notice it, because you are coming from the point of humility. Two things come to mind; it’s all there in the Bible, and secondly, it’s second nature to him because his whole family is the same.

“Lord, I thank you, for your values in Your word the Bible. I pray it impacts my life. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.”
