“All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”1 Corinthians 12:11 NIV
No matter what gift(s) a person has, all spiritual gifts are distributed by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit decides which gifts each believer should have. We are responsible to use and sharpen our gifts, but we can take no credit for what God has freely given us.
Note that discussions about spiritual gifts usually create difficulties when two central points are overlooked: (1) Properly used, spiritual gifts are not self-serving but serve the whole body of Christ (12:7); (2) each gift becomes practically useless when used without love (chapter 13). As you seek to identify and utilize the gifts God has given you, make loving God and loving fellow Christians your highest motives.(Tyndal Study Bible)
What gift do you have?
I just want to say this; I give all the Glory to God. I can’t stop thinking how amazing God is. I am amazed what a difference he has made in my life. Sure I still have some bad habits, but every day I have a new revelation from the Bible. I thank God for that.
All gifts are from the Holy Spirit, God. (Read that commentary again.) The Holy Spirit decides which gift each person should have. At this point, I remind you of that parable we referred to the day before yesterday. We are to use our talents and at the same time improve on them.
I think of work. That person that just does his job, nothing more and nothing less. Will they ever get ahead? No, I don’t believe. Now the opposite is that person who goes the extra mile. Always at work early and last to leave and does above the norm. Do you think he will be recognized? Diligence does not necessarily mean effective. To be effective is a whole new challenge. You have to empower yourself with knowledge and skills beyond the requirement. Then your efforts will count, and rewards will follow. The same applies to our Christian lives. We need to go beyond our duty and calling. We need to empower ourselves with knowledge and skills, through the Word of God the Bible.
Our emphasis should always be on serving and loving others. In that way, we can touch people’s lives.
” Lord, I thank you for my talent. I pray for guidance to go past the standard. In Jesus name. Amen.”
