“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”James 1:12 NKJV
Temptation comes from evil desires inside us, not from God. It begins with an evil thought and becomes sin when we dwell on the thought and allow it to become an action. Like a snowball rolling downhill, sin grows more destructive the more we let it have its way. The best time to stop a temptation is before it is too strong or moving too fast to control. See 1 Corinthians 10:13; or more about escaping temptation.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
In a culture filled with moral depravity and sin-inducing pressures, Paul encouraged the Corinthians about temptation. He said: (1) temptations happen to everyone, so don’t feel you’ve been singled out; (2) others have resisted temptation, and so can you; (3) any temptation can be resisted because God will show you a way to resist it. God will help you resist temptation by helping you (a) recognize those people and situations that give you trouble, (b) run from anything you know is wrong, (c) choose to do only what is right, (d) pray for God’s help, and (e) seek friends who love God and can offer help when you are tempted. Running from a tempting situation is your first step on the way to victory (Tyndal Study Bible)
Temptation do you struggle with something on a day to day basis. I certainly do. One thing comes to mind immediately, aggression. Do you get upset with the taxi driver? Do you get angry with peers?
Salvation is filled with choices. Just like Adam and Eve had a choice. They made the wrong choice. Since that day, we are born into sin. Just like they had a choice we have the option to take the step of salvation. You take that step the peace of God will overcome you. The Holy Spirit will guide you. To overcome the sins and temptations of this world we have to allow God and the Holy Spirit to do Their work. We have the choice. Just like James says we will be Blessed if we endure the temptation. Paul confirms that God will never make our challenges more than that what we can handle.
So in short make, the right choice and God will take care of the rest.
” Lord I thank you for guidance and direction through the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name. Amen.”
