“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”1 Peter 2:24 NLT
Christ died for our sins, in our place, so we would not have to suffer the punishment we deserve. This is called “substitutionary atonement.” (Tyndal Study Bible)
Sin is a disease, a natural and hereditary one, an epidemic distemper, that reaches to all men, and to all the powers and faculties of their souls, and members of their bodies; and which is nauseous and loathsome, and in itself mortal and incurable; nor can it be healed by any creature, or anything that a creature can do. Christ is the only physician, and his blood the balm and sovereign medicine; this cleanses from all sin; through it is the remission of sin, which is meant by healing; for healing of diseases, and forgiving iniquities, is one and the same thing; see ( Psalms 103:3 ) ( Isaiah 33:24 ) ( Psalms 41:4 ) (John Gill Commentary)
John commentary above is harsh, but he is right. It takes me all the way back to Adam and Eve.
Consider this God created us in his own image. He never willed us to sin. It was never part of the plan. So just as He has a will and ability to make choices he created us with the power to choose. And what did Adam and Eve do, they opted to sin? Since that day through the choice of man, sin plagued the world. I agree with John sin is a disease. How many people today struggle with some form of addiction. Many of those addictions are a sin. Telling a white lie, yes that is a sin. We are all guilty of that. I am not here to judge or condemn. There is a solution.
All the decades preceding the Birth of Christ, God was trying to reconcile man to Him. Trying to find a way that he “man” leads a life without sin. Eventually, He got to the point that he sent his son Jesus to redeem us. To reconcile us to Him. While he was on earth, Jesus taught us the correct way we should live. Just read the Gospel of John. We all know that Jesus was crucified, He gave up his life for our sins. God sent his only begotten Son Jesus to die for our sins. To reconcile us to God, Jesus redeemed our sins. He paid the price. Carefully read the scripture again. By the wounds of Jesus, we are healed from sin. All we have to do is believe that Jesus died for our sins.
At the time of Jesus’s death and resurrection the Holy Spirit was released over the Earth. The Holy Spirit is with us every day, to help and guide us. It’s that little voice that says this is not right. We can spend hours on the power of the Holy Spirit. What we all realise that it exists. We have all heard that voice. You see Holy Spirit was sent to sanctify us. That means the process of making Holy. All the tools to deal with sin is right there.
So God created, we sinned.Jesus, the Redeemer, reconciled us to God.The Holy Spirit, sent, sanctifies us, guides and helps us daily.
” Lord I pray that we open our heart and mind to this promise above. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.”
