“You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.”Psalm 119:114 NIV
Those with divided loyalties cannot make up their minds between good and evil. But when it comes to obeying God, there is no middle ground; you must take a stand. Either you are obeying him and doing what he wants or you are not. Choose to obey God, and say with the psalm writer, “I love your instructions.” (Tyndal Study Bible)
These are the lessons for us in this great psalm. The Word of God is sufficient to make us wise, train us in righteousness, and equip us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:15–17). The Scriptures are a reflection of God’s nature, and from them we learn that we can trust His character and His plan and purposes for mankind, even when those plans include affliction and persecution. Blessed indeed are we if our delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law we meditate day and night (Psalm 1:2). (gotquestion.org)
When I read this scripture, what comes to mind is my scepticism. Which developed while I was in the world? In other words before being saved. One can’t believe that you can take refuge in something you can’t see.
The smarter we get, the more we think we can rely on our own understanding. There is a principle in nature that says, the strongest will survive, which I agree with. So yes all my life I have been training to be the strongest. If I was not in some aspects, I lied and winged my way through the challenge. That in itself is a talent used in the wrong way. I am not very proud of that.
The fact is today I realise where the real power is, and where success is born. Honest, hard work with 100% commitment. This and everything above is instruction from God, through the Bible. What I am astounded at is the power that goes with this undertaking. You see I have done both, without God and today with God. I will choose the later every single time. The strength and peace that accompanies this decision, you will never want to be without.
What I also learnt is that improving your wisdom, empowering yourself with knowledge is all important. There are many ways to do that. Just commit to doing it.
“Lord, thank you for Your strength and protection. Amen.”
