It’s not your choice

“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

These who are not “flesh-and-blood enemies” are demons over whom the devil has control. They are not mere fantasies—they are very real. We face a powerful army whose goal is to defeat Christ’s church. When we believe in Christ, these beings become our enemies, and they try every device to turn us away from him and back to sin. Although we are assured of victory, we must engage in the struggle until Christ returns, because Satan is constantly battling against all who are on the Lord’s side. We need supernatural power to defeat Satan, and God has provided this by giving us his Holy Spirit within us and his armor surrounding us. If you feel discouraged, remember Jesus’ words to Peter: “Upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it” (Matthew 16:18). (Tyndal Study Bible)

What’s happens when an athlete does not practice? He eventually becomes just like the rest of us, unfit to win the race.
The same applies if you don’t practice being a Christian. The world does not only consist of Christian; there are many religions people follow. So if you don’t sharpen yourself daily for Jesus, what are you going to become, a Muslim or just an unbeliever with no values.

Look at the world we live in today. Drugs, Alcohol, Pornography and deteriorating values in society. It scares me to think that we have to raise kids in this environment. The Bible warns us of these dark evil forces in the world. Please don’t believe they don’t affect you. How many of us have been affected by drugs and Alcohol directly or indirectly? I am sure the answer is yes, those evil forces at work.

You can never justify drugs.  Are the people developing them are doing it for your good? Nope never, how can that be, with the destruction it causes.
So yes just as scripture says we have a daily fight against these evil forces. Sometimes you can’t even see them. To overcome this, we have to empower ourselves with Word and the Holy Spirit. Yes, we have to practice it. Otherwise, we will lose our strength and touch. The Bible clearly explains we have to dress in the amour of God. ( Ephesians 6:11-18)

I would like to say there is power in numbers so surround yourself with believers so that we can beat these evils.

” Lord I pray for strength for all people. I know withYou can change this world. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Can you hide a city that is sitting on top of a hill? Its light at night can be seen for miles. If we live for Christ, we will glow like lights, showing others what Christ is like. We hide our light by (1) being quiet when we should speak, (2) going along with the crowd, (3) denying the light, (4) letting sin dim our light, (5) not explaining our light to others, or (6) ignoring the needs of others. Be a beacon of truth—don’t shut your light off from the rest of the world. ( Tyndal Study Bible)

How amazing has this year started? Every piece of scripture is about doing something. You see most things in life take action. You won’t achieve anything by sitting around and doing nothing.

During this holiday on a couple of occasions, I found wanting to quote scripture during a conversation. We were debating a point. The scripture would have sealed the point. Two things happened my confidence dwindled, and I forgot the exact Scripture and numbers. My confidence most probably because I did not know the scripture well enough. So what is the plan of action in my case? Firstly, we all have our devices on hand, so use them. Secondly, build the confidence to be bold for Jesus. Be sure to increase knowledge to be more confident.

Carefully read the six comments above. It is so hard to add to these wise words.

I will say this; I am Born again, I prefer my new life over my old life. I can hear you saying, “actually I don’t believe you.” Well, the thing is I had every worldly possession you can think off, yet I never had peace. Born again and with Jesus in my life, I have inner peace. That is priceless. We all have the ability to reach and touch others lives, do you know how valuable that can be? You can even save a life, or save a relationship. So my prayer is that God gives me the confidence to be His light. Each of us can do our part. It’s not the big things it’s the small stuff that counts.

“Lord I Pray for confidence so that I can be that light you command me. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Can you

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NLT‬

When we have an important decision to make, we sometimes feel that we can’t trust anyone—not even God. But God knows what is best for us. He is a better judge of what we want than even we are! We must trust him completely in every choice we make. We should not omit careful thinking or belittle our God-given ability to reason, but we should not trust our own ideas to the exclusion of all others. We must not be wise in our own eyes. We should always be willing to listen to and corrected by God’s Word and wise counsellors. Bring your decisions to God in prayer; use the Bible as your guide, and then follow God’s leading. He will direct your paths by both guidings and protecting you. (Tyndal Study Bible)

Sitting below the Milkwood tree. Cool, breeze blowing off the ocean. It is 35 Celsius out there. Back from the hustle and bustle off the beach. How blessed can you be? Spent the morning on the beach with family. I am having a tough time getting into the Word. I am so overwhelmed by the moment.

I am on leave, and it’s month end at work. You know what happens things go wrong. Or shall I rather say we faced with challenges? What’s the first thing we do? We lean on our own understanding. Yes, we have down this a hundred times, month end. As young a Christian, I learnt to rely on God rather than my understanding. Yes, I know that sounds out there, not quite real. The Scripture says trust in the Lord with all your heart not just a part of it.  Easier said than done I can assure you. I can assure you it works, just have faith.

Take note what the commentator says above. “Bring your decisions to God in prayer.” Yes, you are saying how do I take my daily challenge to God, when they pop up. The thing is during your daily prayers you should ask for guidance and wisdom to deal with challenges. Here comes that word again Faith. That’s what we should have and rely on, rather than our understanding. Would like to add that there is nothing wrong with short prayers right at the moment.

Faith is the cornerstone in all.

“Lord, I pray for your understanding, then faith to rely on you. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Dont be discouraged

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God chose Israel through Abraham because he wanted to, not because the people deserved it (Deuteronomy 7:6-8; 9:4-6). Although God chose the Israelites to represent him to the world, they failed to do this; so God punished them and sent them into captivity. Now all believers are God’s chosen people, and all share the responsibility of representing him to the world. One day God will bring all his faithful people together. We need not fear because (1) God is with us (“I am with you”); (2) God has established a relationship with us (“I am your God”); and (3) God gives us assurance of his strength, help, and victory over sin and death. Are you aware of all the ways God has helped you? (Tyndal Study Bible)

It is critical for all that read this understands that we are all God’s chosen people. There is a differential between believers and none believers. Believers being God’s chosen people. Are you one of God”s chosen people?

An important fact is God loves all people in the world. And I mean that anyone in the world, no matter how much you have sinned. Even murderers. To be chosen, all you have to do is repent and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You are immediately one of the chosen people.

Many of us struggle with motivation, comfort, peace and recognition. Read Isaiah carefully, so many words of encouragement. * Don’t be afraid.* I am with you* Don’t be discouraged* I am your God* I will strengthen you.* I will help you * I will hold you up.

I can imagine why we will struggle to head to these words because it does not seem tangible. No person is lecturing us; what we should be doing we can’t touch and feel these words.

That is why the Bible speaks about faith because Christians are to walk by faith. The Bible speaks about faith the size of a mustard seed that’s all we need. Then these promises will become tangible. So if we walk by faith, all will be revealed.

“Don’t be discouraged I am with you.”

Lord, I pray for Faith. Thank you for all Your promises. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Happy it’s a choice

“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

All people like to be happy—to be exhilarated with joy, to feel good, and to be on top of everything. There’s nothing wrong with that. God wants joyous, excited, happy, and uplifted people. The problem lies in how happiness is generated. Some people think they’ll find it in a liquor bottle or a narcotic. But neither of those is the Christian’s source of joy.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Terrence, are you going to lecture me on the evils of alcohol?  One study I found
Take the time and read the study. Knowledge is power. I am reading this book by John Bevere – Under Cover. I am in the second chapter. There are many revelations. It was a gift, and it’s speaking to me personally. I am going to say this nothing happens by accident.

I would like to share this with you. Ignorance causes deception. And deception is the greatest cause of sin and disobedience. It goes as far back as Adam and Eve; the Serpent deceived Eve.

The next question are you a hearer or doer of the word? How many times have we been to an impressive sermon or teaching, but we fail to apply it to our lives? I am speaking to myself here. A couple of months ago I went to a teaching by Dr Dave Martin; I bought his program and did nothing with it. ” Ignorance” So if you are not applying what you learnt you are robbed and deceived. Take every opportunity to learn.

Ignorance causes deception – all the encouragement and promise is in the Word. What we can’t be is a hearer of the word; we have to be doers. I go back to the question above; Wanna be happy? The answer is right there in Psalm 37;4 NLT – “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires.”

So take delight in the Lord by empowering yourself with the word, the Bible.
” Lord I pray for revelation. Let me delight in the Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.”

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:23‬ ‭NLT

Since the Creation, God has given us work to do. If we could regard our work as an act of worship or service to God, such an attitude would take some of the drudgery and boredom out of it. We could work without complaining or resentment if we treated our job problems as the cost of discipleship. (Tyndale study Bible)

The day Adam and Eve sinned is we were cursed and condemned to earn our fruits from the sweat of out brow. Yes, as far back as that we were condemned to work for a living. So in short if we want to get ahead in life we have to work. What comes to mind is have you ever met a successful person; yes you have. They all work extremely hard and diligently. Think of those successful Churches in the world all their leaders and Pastors are extremely hard working.

Ya, I know you are saying I have heard this all before. You hearing is one thing, doing is the important thing. So many of us know what to do but don’t just do it. This principle applies to all things in life, not only work.
I ask you how are you going to get ahead in life? Ponder on that question I don’t think you need me to answer it.

I have entered a new phase in my life; firstly I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior; secondly, I have embarked on a new career. Both these are completely different to how and what I was before. To be successful at either, it takes hard work and diligence. The spiritual reward will come from hours spent in God’s Word the Bible. Doing nothing will not get a result. Rome was not built in one day. What to do at work I think we all know that we should just do it.

“if we treated our job problems as the cost of discipleship.”

These words are a true revelation treat everything in life in this way. Success will follow.

“Lord I pray for diligence in everything I do. To glorify You. In Jesus name. Amen.”

25 So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body. 26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.”Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27 for anger gives a foothold to the devil. (‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭25‬ – 27 NLT)

Lying to each other disrupts unity by creating conflicts and destroying trust. It tears down relationships and leads to open warfare in a church.
The Bible doesn’t tell us that we shouldn’t feel angry, but it points out that it is important to handle our anger properly. If vented thoughtlessly, anger can hurt others and destroy relationships. If bottled up inside, it can cause us to become bitter and destroy us from within. Paul tells us to deal with our anger immediately in a way that builds relationships rather than destroys them. If we nurse our anger, we will give the devil an opportunity to divide us. Are you angry with someone right now? What can you do to resolve your differences? Don’t let the day end before you begin to work on mending your relationship. (Tyndal Study Bible)

I think of this principle that Boxers apply. The moment you lose your temper in a boxing match you lost the fight.

I can relate many stories of losing my temper, right at that moment you lose the respect of people around you. You can’t think straight, and you make the wrong decisions. How many times have we spoken about correct choices? Getting angry is certainly not the correct choice.

Have you said this before? It’s not me he/she angered first. A couple of years ago I went through management training. The Title of the course was “Management through people skills.” The most important thing I learned during this program was, in any interaction or communication, you are 50% responsible for the other person’s behavior. So if the other party loses their temper, you are partly to blame for it. They are not alone in it; you have to take some responsibility. The correct choices and words come into play again.

It is just like the choice of telling lies. It is so easy to tell that little white lie. We think it smooths things over, but it actually does not. Just like scripture says it causes damage. When you are caught out lying the people affected are angry. There the circle starts again, by making the correct choices you can prevent all the bad. So don’t give a foothold to the devil.

“Lord I pray for correct choices. Holy Spirit guide me. In Jesus name. Amen.”
